What's Missing?
Friday, October 12, 2012 at 4:52PM It’s just after 4:00 PM here in LA and I feel like something is missing from my day. Got up, showered, got dressed, breakfast, made it to work, lunch. Can’t quite put my finger on it. Wait, I know what it is. Hockey. The NHL season was supposed to start today. The Caps should be playing the New Jersey Devils right now, Can you imagine? The Caps would be opening their season as the Nationals would be getting ready for Game 5 of their series with the St. Louis Cardinals. How exciting would that have been? Yes, the Nationals game will be exciting enough, but we’re talking hockey. Since my Reds were eliminated yesterday, Baseball, even the Nationals, takes a backseat to the Capitals. Of course that doesn’t really matter this season. I need my hockey during the winter.
I should be listening to John Walton talk about the Caps new coach, Adam Oates. I should have been wearing my Caps jersey today. The “winter” months will be quite long without hockey. No matter what happens with baseball, it will be over by the end of the month and it can’t fill the void. I hope the NHL can figure this out soon. They’re going to ruin all the progress the league has made in the last few years. The only thing I can think is that Gary Bettman is trying to replace Bud Selig as the worst commissioner in all of sports. He’s on his way to doing this. I know Roger Goodell was considering this role, but he woke up.
I realize I’m not always the sharpest tool in the shed, but how hard can it be to figure this out? I would like the league and players to stop being so selfish and consider not only the fans who pay their salaries, but all of the arena employees who will not be working. Just solve it. Come to a concession and get back on the ice. If there is no hockey this season, I won’t be pleasant.
